Dear Colleagues,

You are cordially invited to attend the following presentation hosted by the Wellington branch:

Date: Tuesday, 24 May 2011

Time: 5.00 pm

Guest Speaker 1: Louise Sziranyi LLB, Managing Partner,

                              Thomas Dewar Sziranyi Letts Lawyers

Guest Speaker 2: Michelle McCoy, Wellington Chamber of Commerce

Subject: Workshop on legal terminology

Venue: The Translation Service of the Department of Internal Affairs,

level 13, Primeproperty Tower, 86-90 Lambton Quay, Wellington

Louise Sziranyi graduated from Victoria University of Wellington in 1984 and then commenced practice as a Court lawyer.

For the first ten years Louise practised in the areas of civil litigation, family and criminal law. Louise now specialises in criminal law and youth advocacy, although she still acts for clients in family law and civil litigation disputes. Louise also advocates for clients with mental health issues and intellectual disabilities.

Louise is the managing partner of the firm and oversees the day-to-day running of the busy litigation practice.

Louise will talk about expectations and requirements for interpreters who work in the court and translators who translate affidavits, contracts and other legal documents. You will be invited to ask Louise questions in the end of her presentation.

Please visit  http://www.tdsl.co.nz/Site/Default.aspx for further information about Louise Sziranyi and Thomas Dewar Sziranyi Letts Lawyers.

In the end of our workshop we will listen to our second guest speaker, Michelle McCoy, from Wellington Chamber of Commerce. Michelle will make a brief presentation (about 15-20 minutes) and tell us about Wellington Chamber of Commerce and how organisations or individual translators and interpreters can become members of Wellington Chamber of Commerce. Michelle will bring application forms with her as well as information to hand out for those who are interested. You will be invited to ask Michelle questions at the end of her presentation.

We are sure this presentation will be of interest to all NZSTI members, both experienced and new translators and interpreters.

Light snacks and drinks will be provided.

Please email Natalia Taylor (nataliasu5@yahoo.co.nz) and RSVP by 5.00 pm on Monday, 23 May 2011.

We look forward to seeing you on May 24th 2011.

Kind regards,

NZSTI Wellington Branch
