Translators and interpreters are by definition in the business of communicating. “Being connected” is one of the essential conditions of the modern world: nowadays, we have instantly-available means of communication wherever and whenever. And communicating in a connected world is very different from the working conditions of the past. This means that our working environment has changed beyond recognition over recent years, presenting us with both many new opportunities and also some new challenges.
The 2014 NZSTI Conference speakers will present a wide and interesting exploration of the ways in which modern technology and the connected environment is impacting translators and interpreters. There is something for everyone – practical, technical, theoretical, philosophical / ethical aspects, education and professional development, challenges and exciting opportunities, and much more.
The conference audience will be multilingual and consist of a diverse range of academics and practitioners engaged in the global translation and interpreting industry.
WELCOME! Friday 20th evening, 6-8pm.
Venue: Piko Restaurant (AUT), 55 Wellesley St
Hosted by the NZSTI Auckland Branch and Pacific International Translations Ltd, this will be an informal get-together, free for registered conference delegates. Wine and nibbles will be served.
Cost: Registered Conference delegates - FREE; Others wishing to attend - $15 cover charge, payable on the night.
NAATI Preparation Workshops - Friday 20 June
Workshops for conference delegates are offered on the Friday before the Conference starts, to help prepare translators and interpreters to sit for NAATI tests to update their skills and potentially ugrade their NZSTI membership status.
Translators: Friday 20 June, 10am - 1.15pm; cost: $60
Interpreters: Friday 20 June, 12.15 - 5pm* ; cost: $80 (*includes 1 hour break from 1.15-2.15pm)
It is possible to register for both as the time overlap is a joint session covering material pertaining to both.
Venue: University of Auckland - Human Sciences Building (12 Symonds St), Level 4, Room 411.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT ENTER THE ROOM BEFORE THE LECTURER ARRIVES.
NZSTI's Annual General Meeting will be held straight after the Conference closes, at 3.30pm, Sunday 22 June 2014. All members are invited to attend, whether or not they have attended the Conference. Please log in to access the AGM documents.
