Dear Members and Non Members,
You are kindly invited to come to the next meeting and the AGM 2012 of the NZSTI Canterbury branch, to be held on:
Thursday, 8 November 2012, 6.30 p.m - 8.30 p.m.
WEA, 56, Gloucester St., Christchurch
Topic: “New Zealand is a nation built on nuanced translation: The treaty of Waitangi. This ought to be a case study in every translation studies text book. Can NZSTI expose, celebrate and leverage this fact to our advantage?”
Speaker: Andrew Miller
Andy is a bi-lingual, bi-cultural, and bi-literate permanent resident in New Zealand, working towards the process of becoming a professional interpreter/translator.
Son of English Missionaries, he grew up in Peru at a time of hyperinflation, and the danger of living amongst the poor but studying with the rich.
He holds a degree in International Relations with Spanish which he studied in the UK and Spain (where he met his kiwi wife)
Andy is trained and employed by Interpreting Canterbury, and has become a student of Translatology and is a practitioner of a functional “Skopos” approach to translation through his MA level studies under the phenomenal supervision of Beatriz Caballero at Canterbury University.
This will be followed by a multicultural pot-luck dinner.
Please come along and bring your friends and colleagues!!!
After the presentation we will also hold the Canterbury Branch AGM 2012, with the following agenda:
1. President's Report
2. Treasurer's Report
3. Election of Canterbury Committee
4. Other Business
Looking forward to seeing you all on November 8!
Kind Regards,
Aliandra
